Welcome to L H Burrows hats
I set up Lisa Burrows Hats in Taunton in 2003, and am now established at 14a The Bridge. I keep a showroom of 100+ samples of my own designs that you are welcome to come in and browse, or call and make an appointment if you would like to bring your outfit and have a try-on to see what suits or not as the case may be!
My approach to hatting you is a creative one – very often there are several styles which may look fantastic, however if you are not comfortable, or feel they are not suitable for the occasion, then there is little point in trying to make the cap fit.
The hat does not stand alone, it is a part of your overall top-to-toe look and it is best designed or chosen with your outfit (or something similar on if it is still at the dressmakers), as the shape is just as important as the colour.
I find it easier to work with as much of the outfit and/or fabric as possible, and you will no doubt end up with a better overall look than if I am just presented with a button to match!
Colour and sizing is never a problem as everything is dyed and constructed on the premises. I work in the traditional way with felts, straws, feathers, veiling etc and hope to bring classic styles alongside contemporary ones, I have lots of pictures and books if you need some inspiration and of course, many samples to have fun with.
Millinery is not about high fashion, more about style and elegance, and it can be lovely to recreate a vintage or modern look to your personal taste. I am happy to incorporate your own ideas, fabrics or trims into pieces to personalise them.
A favourite period of mine is the 30’s with opulent turbans inspired by trade with India, I am still trying to perfect the complex construction of these!

I try to offer something special for a memorable occasion and mostly undertake bespoke work. I will hire out from my samples if the style and colours are right but I am not a ‘hat hire’ business in that I do not necessarily keep 100’s of hats in all colours and styles. I also keep a range of fascinators for sale and try to maintain a good range of colours in these.
I have been in millinery for the past 20 or so years having had a fashion hat business in Bristol (featured on The BBC’s Clothes Show Live). I learnt with a milliner of 50 yrs experience and also attended a millinery course at Central St. Martins. I have taught classes and also give talks, although I realise that not everyone finds the history of hats quite as exciting as I do!
